Cúber

The walk

Cúber, the former Quelber in the official and contemporary Llibre del repartiment was once a land of wheat fields and flocks of the sheep that would spend the summer in these parts. A project for a hydro-electric power station converted into a reservoir to supply the city of Palma with water submerged the previously demolished estate buildings of the possessió in 1971. Nowadays the flattest and most fertile land of the estate can only be seen during a prolonged drought.

In 1988, the Balearic Government bought the property from the Magraner Foundation and it has once become one of the most visited natural areas in the Serra de Tramuntana.

For children’s pushchairs and wheelchairs it’s quite feasible to go along the tarmac path as far as Cuber’s dam — about 1 km.
